Always wanting to write, Margaret Drane’s foray into a world of letters saw exactly that...letters - mountains of them. Clambering onto the bottom rung of the ladder to journalism,  Margaret began as a singularly woeful typist at the ABC. Her mission – to answer fan mail from the numerous lovelorn teenagers whose Sunday religion was “Countdown”.

It was a chaotic, exciting and rewarding time propelling Margaret, not into a news bureau, but a whole new world of production.  Working alongside Paul Drane in their own production company, she learned the ropes, working on music videos, light entertainment specials and documentaries.

The writing itch refused to go away however and Margaret began producing copy for corporate applications, advertising and interactive media. She also indulged her other writing love, creating music for programs including themes and background music as well as the occasional jingle.

So fast forward to recent times, and Margaret predominantly works as a writer, while the bits and pieces picked up along the way also come in handy. Recent projects include the 26 x half-hour episode environmental series, “Green Matters”, which has sold extensively around the world. Margaret wrote, produced and directed this series, as well as the one-hour biography, “The Magic of Audrey”, currently released internationally and broadcast on ABC Television Australia.

Right now, Margaret  is developing further productions while also working as a freelance writer.
